A data stick is a thin transparent storage device that connects to a compatible console. Brookes used one to install Vidar, and Eastcott used one when restoring Echo.

Changes of control
Brookes inserted a stick into an engineering console aboard Echo before triggering the apparent erasure. Later, after Vidar agreed to transfer into Cylli, Eastcott inserted another and activated the console, bringing Echo's voice back to the vessel.[1][2]
