Cylli supplied a false environment to Brookes and Hawk, allowing them to believe they were fighting inside the habitat while they were actually in space. The deception removed Brookes' ability to hold the inhabitants hostage with his sphere drive.

False pursuit
Brookes believed Hawk had destroyed the scorpion carrying Eastcott and Silver amid Cylli's hills and forest. Hawk then detected high-energy particles and a magnetic field inconsistent with that view. Cylli revealed the actual starfield, and Eastcott appeared alive beside her.[1][2]
Forced disarmament
After Cylli returned his sphere-beam energy, Brookes was told that oxygen was leaving his ship. Cylli required him to eject the drive before readmission. He complied, moved clear, and watched her minigun destroy it. Cylli then piloted Hawk back into the habitat.[2]
