Three hawks attacked Echo and Eastcott's upgraded scorpion between Earth and Venus after the strike on the Flaxen capital. The defenders concentrated fire and forced Brookes's formation to withdraw.
Combined fire
Brookes ordered all three beams onto the scorpion. Its new armor held temporarily while Eastcott returned plasma fire against the central hawk. The hawks intercepted ten incoming missiles with lasers. Sarah ordered Echo's rail guns to attack the same central ship, knocking it off heading and breaking the united beam.[1]
Withdrawal
Eastcott shifted plasma fire to another hawk while Echo continued its barrage. With the scorpion nearing armor failure, the three hawks fled. The craft landed damaged but salvageable aboard Echo, and the starship withdrew to its lunar base.[1]
