Military service
Odin's railguns batter Echo during the ambush at Jupiter. Echo recalls destroying a Martian destroyer with its own slugs. Though most weapons are removed during conversion to exploration, Eastcott requests new railgun ammunition from contemporary United Earth in exchange for military assistance.[1][2][3]
Supply and refit
United Earth manufactured additional slugs for Echo. Its original guns failed to damage Brookes's hawk. Cylli's refit increased their firing velocity fivefold; Sarah assessed the resulting impact energy as twenty-five times the previous value, and concentrated fire damaged the hawks during the later battle.[4][5]
Uses and destruction
Echo used rail guns against Brookes' most powerful-appearing hawk before the remaining attackers destroyed his outer weapons. Later, under Vidar, Brookes ordered rail-gun strikes at ten percent power across the African front. He expected all within half a mile of each impact to be vaporized.[7][8]
