The Sun is the star of Earth, Mars, and Venus, and an energy and material source for later planetary engineering. Echo returns toward it after the failed journey to Copious.
Names, outcomes, and discoveries from later histories are concealed in spoiler-light mode.

Engineering roles
Venus's climate-control mirrors limit the sunlight reaching the planet. Heat-resistant mass accelerators collect nitrogen from the Sun during terraforming, and Cylli's hull captures high-energy solar photons to power the habitat.[2][3]
Light and power
Brookes tried to exploit the energy-handling behavior of Cylli's hull. Cylli later took control of Venus' mirrors, enabling Eastcott to suppress sunlight as pressure against Claudius. The control was over the mirrors and the light reaching Venus, rather than a physical alteration of the star.[4][5]
