Combat crescents were transparent devices worn around the eyes by Echo's Marines. They combined enhanced vision, tactical displays, communications, translation, and weapons control.
Also recorded as: Crescents, Marine crescents
Vision and coordination
The devices amplified light and displayed targets, navigation routes, and other troops' status. Infrared mode enabled operations in near-total darkness. Hastings assigned targets from a wrist display and used blink commands to send instructions or link a subordinate's rifle to his own trigger.[1][2]
Protection and translation
The crescents compensated for the glare of energy weapons and breaching gel. Their translation matrix rendered Flaxen speech intelligible, although lip movements did not match the translated words.[1][2]
