Colonel Hastings is a United Earth Tier 1 special-operations officer carried aboard Echo. Captain Eastcott places him in command of the reconstituted volunteer force.
Also recorded as: Hastings, Colonel Hastings
Appointment
Hastings has a record of exceptional covert operations during the six-year war. Eastcott orders him to train the combined Earth and Martian personnel into an effective covert unit for operations against the Flaxens. Although his rank is at least equivalent to that of a fleet captain, he accepts Eastcott's command aboard Echo.[1]
Camp Skadi
Hastings led six Marines into the camp at night after linking with surviving Earth satellites. They silently killed the four tower guards and reached Serilda in hut seven. On Eastcott's orders they treated the hut's sick prisoners and left food and water. Hastings carried Megan during the withdrawal.[2]
Mount Aconcagua
Hastings led almost fifty Marines against the infrasound weapons installation. The force killed the entrance guards, breached the facility, captured four Flaxens, and planted five powerful explosive devices. Huel Jenkins was killed in the fighting. Hastings prohibited the desecration of a Flaxen corpse and ordered Jenkins's body recovered.[3]
Contingency planning
At Cylli, Hastings was ordered to prepare a backup plan to capture Brookes and the quantum key on Venus. He cautioned that infiltration of the densely populated area would carry a high risk of failure and that Brookes might not surrender the device.[4]
