Hastings's Marines extracted Serilda Corazon and Megan from Camp Skadi in a covert night operation ordered by Captain Eastcott. The mission succeeded without friendly casualties or an alarm from the Flaxen garrison.
Also recorded as: Rescue of Serilda and Megan, Camp Skadi extraction
Plan and approach
A week after Eastcott's meeting with President Forrender, Hastings prepared to rescue Serilda at one in the morning, Eastern North American time. His six Marines used old Earth satellites for reconnaissance, landed roughly a quarter-mile from the camp, and silently killed the four tower guards. Eastcott supervised from a second shuttle near Earth to reduce communications delay.[1]
Hut seven
Serilda refused to abandon the other prisoners. Eastcott agreed to take Megan and treat the remaining captives. The Marines administered antibiotics, left water and rations, and withdrew with the two women. Hastings carried Megan.[1]
Consequences
The Flaxens retaliated with an unprecedented air raid on York and condemned Flint for incompetence. His replacement Senery resumed executions at the camp, ending the protection Serilda had maintained through her influence on Flint.[2]
