Conditions
Prisoners occupy thin-walled metal huts with inadequate bunks, contaminated surroundings, and scarce food and water. In hut seven, the sickest are segregated from other inmates. Mines provide labor for the prisoners; when they are closed, inmates may move within the perimeter until sunset.[1]
Command and survival
Flint lives in a well-supplied house while prisoners lack medicine. Serilda Corazon secretly redistributes his food and protects the inmates through her influence over him. Major Damien Scenery uses violence against prisoners and watches Flint for evidence of prohibited fraternization.[1][2]
Layout and extraction
The camp had towers at its four corners, a garrison of about one hundred Flaxens, and prisoner huts. A square gray building near the back corner contained its death chamber. Hastings's team landed roughly a quarter of a mile away, killed four guards, and reached hut seven without alerting the garrison.[3][4]
Prisoner survival
Serilda secretly influenced Flint toward mercy, keeping prisoners too weak to work alive. After her escape he was condemned and replaced by Senery. Echo's crew watched by satellite as prisoners removed ashes from the death chamber and another group, including mothers and children, was forced inside and killed.[4]
Resistance and terror
According to Serilda, people who refused to enter a death chamber were tortured and killed in front of the next selected group. The chamber served both as an execution facility and a continuing threat to those still alive.[5]
Raid and confrontation
Marines killed the camp's remaining guards and secured Scenery's home. Megan and Serilda confronted him there while six hidden riflemen held him at gunpoint.[6]
