Megan is a human prisoner in Camp Skadi and Serilda Corazon’s closest companion. Seriously weakened by the camp’s conditions, she depends on Serilda’s care and shares her concern for their fellow prisoners.
Names, outcomes, and discoveries from later histories are concealed in spoiler-light mode.
Illness and care
Serilda gives Megan water and food each day, sustaining her through worsening weakness and fever. At twenty-one years old, Megan has been refusing food for days when Serilda suspects blood poisoning. With medicine withheld from human prisoners, Serilda secretly uses her mental gift to restore Megan's appetite.[1][2]
Faith and trust
Megan regards Serilda as an angel sent by God and worries that the camp's red circles may threaten the infirm as well as herself. She knows of Serilda's anticipated rescuer and calls him the man in the moon.[1][2]
Serilda and rescue
Serilda protected Megan from the time she arrived at the camp, and the two became lovers. Megan worked in the mines but was gravely ill by the time Hastings's Marines arrived. Serilda refused to leave without her. Hastings carried her to the rescue shuttle; aboard Echo, Ostio treated her malnutrition and infections.[3][4][7][8]
Warning and recovery
Megan told Sarah that Serilda spoke of a sphere and Avalon in her sleep and appeared terrified. Sarah recognized the name and ordered Echo's armor deployed, a warning Eastcott credited with saving the ship. Megan initially feared men in uniform, including Eastcott, but later thanked him personally and urged him to pursue his relationship with Sarah.[5][6][8]
Early life and imprisonment
Megan lived secretly with her mother in a forest cabin until a Flaxen patrol killed her mother when Megan was ten. A Flaxen hunter found her beside the body, gave her water, and brought her home. He and his wife sheltered Megan as a daughter for three years before search dogs discovered her in their attic. Her protectors were arrested and she was sent to the camp at thirteen.[8]
Understanding Serilda
Megan explained that Serilda's influence had reached Eastcott with no apparent light-speed delay. She had learned simple physics while sheltered by her adoptive Flaxen parents and recognized the discrepancy. Eastcott offered her a purposeful career aboard Echo.[9]
Secret mission and reunion
Megan protested Serilda's unexplained disappearance and blamed Eastcott when she returned unconscious. Serilda later communicated with her while she slept. Megan reunited with her in Echo's infirmary after Brookes' defeat.[10][11][12][13]
Camp Skadi and later life
With Serilda and supporting marines, Megan confronted Damien Scenery at his home. Using his engraved combat knife, she castrated him before his promised trial. After the war, she and Serilda lived aboard Cylli and offered to look after Eastcott and Dimple's children.[13][14]
