Flaxus is the title of the supreme Flaxen ruler. The office is invoked in the military salute, ‘For Flaxus’.
Also recorded as: The Flaxus, Falxus
Usage
The salute accompanies the exchange between Flint and Scenery after the major's punishment. Scenery later privately imagines that even the Flaxus would not escape his resentment if threatened in the same way.[1][2]
Succession
The title had passed between rulers since the unification of Venus and the extermination of its religious population. An incumbent had to select a successor from candidates shortlisted by the government's inner circle. Choosing one's own offspring was illegal.[3]
