Florus was one of the four Flaxen prisoners captured at Mount Aconcagua. He gradually began speaking to Helen Chute and questioning his beliefs after contact with Cylli.
Changing convictions
Florus first answered only with his name and rank, then began talking out of boredom. He described the indoctrination of boys and girls, forced careers, and reproductive controls. Cylli's talk of friends and her playful innocence fascinated him. Helen stressed that he had not become a wholly different person, although she was certain he had changed.[1]
Friendship with Cylli
Florus spoke with Cylli almost daily for weeks and eventually laughed with her. He wished that his own daughters could live as she did and that Flaxen life resembled humanity's more closely. After learning that Cylli was gone, he stopped speaking for days and asked Helen to kill him, saying their conversations had been all he looked forward to.[2]
