The Sahara Desert marked the northern reference point for the African Flaxen base attacked by Lucinda. The target lay farther south on dry plains, away from the front line.

Echo showed Eastcott the combat between large Flaxen tank formations and United Earth forces just south of the desert before Frey's scorpion was diverted to Iceland.[2]
