A sphere beam is a directed violet energy weapon powered by energy diverted from a sphere drive. Its output depends on the materials available to conduct that energy.
Names, outcomes, and discoveries from later histories are concealed in spoiler-light mode.

Effects and countermeasures
The beam destroyed Lucinda's scorpion and tore open Echo's outer midsection. Cylli reflected much of its energy and remained intact. The upgraded armor of Echo's surviving scorpion resisted three combined beams temporarily, while the hawks' formation could be disrupted by concentrated rail-gun impacts.[1][2][4]
Enhancement and attack
Exotic metal recovered on Mars improved Brookes' beam. By rapidly changing its frequency and reflecting it from a remote mirror, he overcame the speed limits of Cylli's hull nanomachines during the breach.[5]
Limit and response
Cylli's hull later learned to use only a fraction of its nanomachines to store and return the incoming energy. She concentrated Brookes' attack into a retaliatory beam that sent his hawk spinning. Brookes subsequently claimed to be designing weapons far more powerful, but those designs were not demonstrated.[7][8]
