Abilities and prejudice
General Von Marshall states that the known mentally gifted individuals are always half human and half Flaxen. Serilda Corazon reads thoughts, influences desires, and fabricates memories, while suffering prejudice from Flaxen officers and some human inmates alike. Her father's relationship with her mother violates Flaxen law.[1][2][3]
Legal position and intelligence
Flaxen law forbade the execution of Flaxen children, but Serilda described her mixed parentage as a legal gray area. She was spared execution and sent to Camp Skadi. Eppleston later cited half-Flaxen intelligence as crucial to United Earth's resistance.[4][5]
Capabilities and treatment
United Earth's operatives could influence others, gather thoughts, or combine their minds. Serilda possessed exceptional power. Eppleston speculated that the love she had known in childhood, unlike the camp upbringing of the other operatives, might explain a difference in her abilities; he explicitly called this conjecture.[6][8][9]
Visible traits
The Iceland team shared Serilda's unusual complexion and luminous eyes. The sustained operation against the commanders left their appearance depleted.[8]
